Product Description

Large and in charge, the Citizen Nighthawk men's stainless steel pilot watch will add a soaring accent to business and casual wear. It includes a standard slide rule as well as a pilot's slide rule, which can be used for flying distance and other navigation calculations. The round black watch case has a brushed finished with a thin-edged bezel framing the black dial background, and it measures 42mm (1.65 inches) wide and 12mm (0.47 inches) deep. It's accented by large luminous white hands, thin white baton markers, and Arabic numerals at 6 and 12 o'clock. This watch is completed by a stainless steel link bracelet band with a black finish, which is joined by a push-button fold-over clasp with safety. Other features includes a dual-time function for tracking a second time zone, large date display at 3 o'clock, scratch resistant mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water resistance to 660 feet (200 meters).

This watch is powered by Citizen's unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artificial light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. With regular exposure to light, the Eco-Drive continuously recharges itself for a lifetime of use. This watch's Eco-Drive provides a 180-day power reserve, and it can be recharged with just 1.5 hours of exposure to light.

This is an awesome (looking) watch.

Okay, I admit that I was looking for a watch that was more about looks than function. I wanted something that looked different from the normal "run of the mill" watches that you find everywhere.

When searching Amazon for different choices, I was immediately drawn to the black Citizen Nighthawk. The black metal band and watch is a rarity among watches. The watch face was really appealing especially with the large numbers and red 24 hour numbers.

I did read the Amazon product description and knew that it came with Eco-Drive. That was a real plus since I may never have to replace the rechargeable battery. Most watches are never water resistant after the battery has been replaced.

I purchased the watch and I've had it for about 6 months. First I have to say that the watch is beautiful. I've had multiple comments about the watch from people who apparently agree. I also love the large numbers and hands. The watch is easy to read in both light and dark. The mineral crystal is so clear that it's like it isn't even there. The Eco-Drive works flawlessly and changing the date is a breeze.

If you don't like large heavy watches, then this watch is not for you. But if awesome looks and black stainless steel appeals to you, then you can't do better than this watch.

Nice watch

I wanted this watch for a year and a half, and my wife finally got it for me as a 30th birthday gift.
This face of this watch is slightly larger than the average watch, but it is not as huge as some of the new overly large gaudy watches. It was a little difficult to get everything in sync to begin with (24hour in sync with date took some time), but now it runs great and seems very accurate.
The black wears off the edges of the band slightly, but it still looks great.

Updated 2-10-09: The black wears off he band significantly where it rubs on tabletops and such. Do not buy this watch if you think the band will stay in great shape forever.
Great watch

Purchased the nighthawk titanium from Amazon a few years back. its ROCK SOLID. always working and on time.

The dial is easy to read and the watch surprisingly comfortable. If anything the watch is missing a stop clock.

Not so sure about the "Pilot Watch" aspect, I am a private pilot, and honestly don't have time fiddling with watch features. For a pilot the number one concern is that the watch is clear and readable day and night, the Nighthawk is just that, and the over sized face can be seen easily in any light and with just a glance at the watch. However, adjusting the calculator while flying is not for the faint of heart, though I believe that applies to any so called "pilot watch", today the cockpit is filled with practical electronics which give all the information required in a much more practical manner (though its nice to be able to calculate travel time in case the GPS stops working, but in that case we probably have bigger problems to worry about).

Interestingly the 8 o'clock nob for adjusting the calculator is to the left and requires the watch to worn on right hand for adjustment while worn, unlike push buttons watches it can not easily be adjusted when worn on left hand.

For me the two time zones is practical for constantly traveling. it is also practical that the main time display is adjusted in 1 hour increments so you do not need to worry about getting the minutes right when setting the watch for a new time-zone. (I always leave the 24h display to home time)

HIGHLY RECOMENDED Along with my mille milia this is my favorite watch.
Good looking watch

I got this watch almost four years ago and it still runs like a champ and is keeps time very accurately. I bought this watch with the silver body and black leather band. Ive taken it places i probably shouldnt have but it has proved all these years to be very durable and reliable. The only issue is that the leather band version (which i guess they dont sell anymore) is impossible to find. Its a very specially made band for this watch and I have looked - LITERALLY - everywhere for a replacement band and cannot find it. Ive looked in several states, even Citizen dealers and no one has the original band for it - couldnt find it on the web site either so I got a cheap replacement.

Other than all that its a great watch and for the longest time people would comment on how good it looked and that always feels nice. This watch is pretty versatile in what kind of clothes it can go with. It can be worn very casually and also works when dressed up - the leather or the metal band works well for both of these occasions.

All in all a very good watch and worth the money. The eco-drive technology is absolutely fantastic. Knowing that you never need to worry about replacing batteries (which compromises water resistance) is great on the conscience.
Great watch!

This is a great watch! I bought it just a couple of months ago and have not regretted a single moment of being a proud owner of the Nighthawk. The watch charges up very quickly and keeps very accurate time. The bracelet is probably one of my favorite things, but the fact that you can do mathematical calculations using the second dial (like multiplication, division, etc) is also very cool. One thing I would like to mention is that not a lot of watches do this nowadays, but this watch will glow in the dark without having to have any radioactive materials in it -- my understanding is that it glows from that solar charge. The only downside to that is that if the watch does not see the light of day for several days, the battery will go empty pretty quickly (3-4 days). I wish they would make the glowing feature optional, like press a button and it lights up, but so far it hasn't really been an issue. Overall an excellent watch!
